세조 (1417-1468)

세조는 조선의 제7대 임금, 시인이다. 조선 왕조에서 최초로 왕세자를 거치지 않고 즉위한 임금이자, 최초로 반정을 일으켜 즉위한 군주다. 세종대왕과 소헌왕후 심씨의 둘째 아들로서, 문종의 동복동생이자 안평대군 용, 금성대군 유의 친형이며 단종의 숙부이기도 하다. 세종이 병들고 세자였던 문종이 대리청정을 하자, 그는 동생인 안평대군과 함께 신하들에게 세종과 문종의 교지를 전하기도 하였다. 수양대군과 안평대군 형제는 당시 조정 중신들이 왕권에 공공연히 도전하는 것을 보고 탐탁치 않게 여기며 후일을 기약했다고 한다. 능은 경기도 남양주의 광릉이다.

Sejo (1417-1468)

Sejo of Joseon was the seventh king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. Prime minister of Joseon Dynasty 1453 to 1455. He was brother of Munjong of Joseon and uncle of Danjong of Joseon. Finally in 1455 he forced his powerless young nephew, Danjong, to abdicate, declaring himself seventh king of the Joseon dynasty. Later he demoted Danjong to prince and ordered him to be poisoned after his younger brother, Grand Prince Geumsung, and later six scholars including Seong Sam-mun, Pak Paeng-nyeon, and Yi Gae plotted to remove the Suyang from power in an attempt to put Danjong back on the throne.
