허준 (1539-1615)

허준(서울 강서구 출생)은 조선 중기의 의관·의학자이다. 동의보감의 저자이며, 동의보감 외에도 선조의 명을 받아 임진왜란 종결 후, 각종 중국의서와 기존 의서의 복원, 편찬 및 정리에 힘썼다. 그밖에도 한글로 된 의서인 《언해두창집요》, 산부인과 관련 의서인 《언해태산집요》, 기본 가정의서인 《언해구급방》 등도 집필하였다.

Heo Jun (1539-1615)

He was appointed as a court physician at the age of 29. He wrote a number of medical texts, but his most significant achievement is Dongui Bogam, which is often noted as the defining text of traditional Korean medicine. The work spread to East Asian countries like China, Japan, and Vietnam where it is still regarded as one of the classics of Oriental medicine today.
