여운형 (1886-1947)

여운형은 일제 강점기의 독립운동가 겸 저술가이다. 1945년 8월에 건국준비위원회 위원장을, 9월부터 1946년 2월까지 조선인민공화국의 부주석을 지내기도 했다. 구한 말 평등 사상을 수용하여 노비들을 해방시키고, 교육·계몽 활동을 하다가 1907년 대한협회에서 주최하는 강연회에서 안창호 연설에 감화되어 독립 운동에 투신했다.

Lyuh Woonhyung (1886-1947)

Lyuh Woon-hyung was a Korean politician who argued that Korean independence was essential to world peace, and a reunification activist who struggled for the independent reunification of Korea since its national division in 1945. His pen-name was Mongyang, the Hanja for "dream" and "the sun." He is rare among politicians in modern Korean history in that he is revered in both South and North Korea
