2006년 FIFA 월드컵

198개국 축구 협회가 운영하는 6개 대륙의 대표팀들이 2003년 9월에 시작한 예선에 참가하였다. 31개 팀이 예선을 거쳐 개최국 독일과 대회 본선에 합류하였다. 이 대회는 독일에서 열린 2번째 (첫 대회는 1974년 동서로 분단되었을때 서독이 개최하였으며, 이 대회도 기존에 대회를 개최했던 국가에서 열리는 월드컵이었다.) FIFA 월드컵 대회이며 유럽에서 열린 10번째 대회이다. 이탈리아는 이 대회 정상에 오르면서 통산 4번째 우승을 차지하였다.

2006 FIFA World Cup

The 2006 FIFA World Cup was the 18th FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football world championship tournament. It was held from 9 June to 9 July 2006 in Germany, which won the right to host the event in July 2000. Teams representing 198 national football associations from all six populated continents participated in the qualification process which began in September 2003.
