묘길상(妙吉祥)

북한 강원도 금강군에 있는 고려시대 아미타구품인 손 모양의 마애불.불상. 북한문화재이다. 묘길상은 아미타여래를 조각한 것이다. 18세기 말 부근에 있던 묘길상 암자의 이름을 이 부처 옆에 새긴 이후로 묘길상으로 부르게 되었다고 한다. 소속절을 밝혀 마하연묘길상이라고도 한다.

Myogilsang

The Myogilsang Buddhist statue is a carved Bodhisattva located in the Grand Miruk Cliff in Manphok Valley, Inner Kumgang, North Korea. Dating from the Koryo period, it is 15 metres high and 9.4 metres wide. The statue was once part of a larger temple dedicated to Manjushri that was laid to waste in the late-Choson period, leaving only the carving. A painting dated 1768 in the National Museum of Korea in Seoul shows the carving inside the temple.
