츄구지 (중궁사, 中宮寺)

쇼토쿠 태자가 어머니인 아나호베하시히토코를 위해 지었다고 하는 일본 최고의 비구니 사찰이다. 국보인 아스카시대 조각 “반가사유상”은 아스카시대 조각의 최고 걸작으로 알려져 있다. 그 외에도 일본 최고 자수 유품인 “천수국수장”은 1000년이 넘은 지금도 선명한 색상을 간직하고 있는 귀중한 물품으로, 본당에 안치되어 있는 것은 모조품이며, 실물은 “나라 국립미술관”에 보관되어 있다.

Chuguji

After Shotoku Taishi lost his mother, Empress Anahobe no Hashihito, in 621, he converted her palace residence into this nunnery. Originally located 500 meters east of its current location, the temple fell into decline during the Heian period (794-1185) when the capital was transferred from Nara to Kyoto.
