우임금 (禹, B.C.2123–2025)

제우는 중국 고대의 전설상의 국가인 하나라의 창시자이다. 아버지는 곤이며 곤의 아버지는 오제의 하나인 전욱이다. 따라서 우는 전욱의 손자이다. 또 전욱은 황제의 손자이므로 우는 황제의 고손자가 된다. 도산씨의 딸에게 장가가 계라는 아들을 두었다. 우는 인덕을 가져 사람들에게 존경받는 인물이었다. 또 탁월한 정치 능력을 가지고 있었다. 그러나 그럼에도 불구하고 스스로를 자랑하지 않았다. 아마도 전설적인 인물이기 때문에 이러한 성인으로서 그려지는 것으로 보인다.

Yu the Great was a legendary king in ancient China who was famed for his introduction of flood control, his establishment of the Xia dynasty which inaugurated dynastic rule in China, and his upright moral character. He figures prominently in the Chinese legend of "Great Yu Who Controlled the Waters"

대우릉 (大禹陵)

대우릉은 저장성 사오싱시 웨청구 동남쪽 콰이지산 자락에 있고, 사오싱 시내에서 3킬로미터 거리에 자리 잡고 있다. 우릉, 우사(우 사당), 우묘 등 세 개의 건축물이 있다. 사오싱의 위링촌은 하우 사씨의 후손이 대대로 우의 묘를 지키며 지금까지 살아왔다고 말한다.

Great Yu Mausoleum

Yu Mausoleum, four kilometers southeast of Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, was built to commemorate Yu, the last chief of the tribal alliance of China's late primitive society. Yu, who was also known as Yu the Great, Xia Yu or Rong Yu, was once the chief of the Xia Tribe. Because of his success in preventing floods by controlling water flows he was made chief of the tribal alliance by Shun. He was said to have led the people in developing agriculture by dredging the rivers and constructing irrigation ditches.
