고창갯벌

고창갯벌은 고창군과 부안군 사이에 있는 곰소만[줄포만]에 위치한 반폐쇄적인 내만형 갯벌로서 인근에 있던 새만금 갯벌이 사라짐에 따라 그 중요성이 날로 더해지고 있다. 고창갯벌은 만조선에서 간조선 방향으로 약 0.4~6㎞의 폭을 가지며, 중부 조간대와 하부 조간대의 발달이 양호하고, 상부 조간대의 발달이 미약하다. 주요 생태계의 특징을 보면 저서 동물로는 조개류, 갯지렁이 등 저서동물 68종이 서식하며, 풀게·동죽 등 수산 자원이 13종에 이른다. 2021년 유네스코세계자연유산에 등재되었다.

Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats

Situated in the eastern Yellow Sea on the southwestern and southern coast of the Republic of Korea, the site comprises four component parts: Seocheon Getbol, Gochang Getbol, Shinan Getbol and Boseong-Suncheon Getbol. The site exhibits a complex combination of geological, oceanographic and climatologic conditions that have led to the development of coastal diverse sedimentary systems.
