성 조지 요새

성 조지 요새는 인도 타밀나두주 첸나이에 위치해 있는 동인도 회사의 최초 성채로, 1653년에 건립되었으며, 카마라자르 도로에 자리잡고 있다. 1749년 확장 공사로 현재의 모습이 되었으며, 6미터 높이의 두터운 성벽을 갖춘 건물은 현재는 사무국과 입법부가 같이 사용하고 있다.

Fort St. George, India

Fort St George (or historically, White Town) is the first English (later British) fortress in India, founded in 1644 at the coastal city of Madras, the modern city of Chennai. The construction of the fort provided the impetus for further settlements and trading activity, in what was originally an uninhabited land.
