스미스소니언 국립 자연사 박물관

지구가 탄생한 순간부터 현대에 이르기까지 동식물과 광물을 총집합한 대규모 전시장이다. 뉴욕의 자연사 박물관과 어깨를 나란히 할 정도로 방대한 자연사 자료를 소장하고 있으며 그 수가 무려 1억여 점이 넘는다. 1층 정문으로 입장하면 로툰다(Rotunda)에 서 있는 아프리카 부시 코끼리가 관람객을 반긴다. 1959년부터 전시되기 시작한 이 박물관의 아이콘이다. 무게가 무려 8톤에 이르는 부시 코끼리 주변으로 코트 룸과 매표소, 안내 데스크 등이 위치하며 전시실은 로툰다를 감싸는 형태로 동선이 구성된다.

The National Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum administered by the Smithsonian Institution, located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., United States. It has free admission and is open 364 days a year. In 2016, with 7.1 million visitors, it was the fourth most visited museum in the world and the most visited natural history museum in the world.[2] Opened in 1910, the museum on the National Mall was one of the first Smithsonian buildings constructed exclusively to hold the national collections and research facilities.
