도쿄국립경기장

특징적인 목재 격자 프레임과 디자인에는 초현대적인 건축과 일본 전통 건축 기법이 절묘하게 녹아 있으며, 일본의 47개 현 곳곳에서 상징적으로 공수해온 7만 평방피트의 류큐 소나무와 삼나무로 구성되어 있다. 6만 8천 석 규모의 신국립 경기장은 메이지진구 신궁의 정원 외곽과 아주 가까운 거리이며, 신주쿠의 마천루들 사이에 자리하고 있다. 이곳에서는 도쿄 올림픽과 패럴림픽의 개막식 및 폐막식이 모두 열렸다. 총 1,570억 엔(14억 달러)이 투입된 이 경기장은 유명 건축가 쿠마 켄고와 타이세이 건설, 아즈사 셋케이의 합작으로 건설되었다.
