린위탕 (1895.10.10-1976.3.26)

린위탕(林語堂,임어당)은 중국의 소설가이자 문명비평가이다. 푸젠 성 룽치에서 가난한 목사의 아들로 태어났다. 상하이의 세인트 존스 대학을 졸업하고, 베이징 칭화 학교의 영어 교사가 되었다. 1919년 하버드 대학에 건너가 언어학을 공부하고 석사 학위를 얻었으며 1921년에는 독일로 건너가 예나 대학, 라이프치히 대학에서 공부하고 1923년 언어학 박사 학위를 받았다.

Lin Yutang (1895-1976)

Lin Yutang was a Chinese writer, translator, linguist, philosopher and inventor. His informal but polished style in both Chinese and English made him one of the most influential writers of his generation, and his compilations and translations of classic Chinese texts into English were bestsellers in the West.

린위탕고택

린위탕고택은 1966년 대만 타이페이 시린 구에 지어졌다. 이곳에서 린위탕의 자취를 볼 수 있으며, 린위탕고택 한켠에는 기념품점과 카페가 있다.

Lin Yutang House

The Lin Yutang House is a former residence in Shilin District, Taipei, Taiwan belongs to Lin Yutang. The house was constructed in 1966. The house was designed by Lin Yutang himself with a traditional Chinese four-sided walls with interior courtyard.
