차이나타운

중국인은 시애틀에 정착한 최초의 아시아 인으로 1860 년대 샌프란시스코를 통해 입국했고 이민자의 대다수는 광저우 주변 지역 출신이다. 1860년대에 이주한 중국 노동자들은 환영을 받았다. 왜냐하면 시애틀 지역이 드문 드문 마을화 되어 노동자들이 필요했기 때문이다. 중국인 정착은 계속되었고 이민자들은 차이나 타운에 정착하여 가족 그룹, 협회 및 교회를 통해 문화를 유지했다.

History of Chinese Americans in Seattle

Greater Seattle has had a Chinese American community almost since its founding in 1851. Chinese workers arriving in the 1860s were welcomed, because the Seattle area was sparsely settled and workers were needed; within a few decades, however, newly arrived white settlers resented the Chinese workers, and there were several anti-Chinese riots as the whites attempted to expel the Chinese from the area.
