표도르 도스토옙스키 (1821-1881)

도스토옙스키는 러시아 문학의 최고 거장 가운데 한 명으로 불리며 20세기 소설에 지대한 영향을 끼쳤다. 그는 신흥 자본주의 압박 밑에서 신음하는 소시민층의 대변자인 동시에 열렬한 슬라브주의자였다. 그의 작품은 비단 문학의 영역에서뿐만 아니라, 철학·종교·사회 문제 등 각 방면에 걸쳐 커다란 영향을 끼쳤다. 대표작으로는 '죄와 벌'(1866), '카라마조프의 형제'(1879~80) 등이 있다. 진보적 사회 운동을 하다가 탄압받은 경험이 그의 문학 세계에 많은 영향을 주었다.

Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky was a Russian novelist, short story writer, essayist, journalist and philosopher. Dostoevsky's literary works explore human psychology in the troubled political, social, and spiritual atmospheres of 19th-century Russia, and engage with a variety of philosophical and religious themes. His most acclaimed works include Crime and Punishment (1866), The Idiot (1869), Demons (1872) and The Brothers Karamazov (1880).
