푸른바다거북

푸른바다거북 또는 바다거북(Chelonia mydas)은 바다거북과에 속하는 대형 거북이다. 바다거북속에 속하는 유일한 종이다. 이들은 전 세계의 열대와 아열대 해양에 분포하며, 대서양과 태평양의 개체군은 구분되어 있다. 녹색으로 보이는 이유는 등딱지의 밑에 있는 지방질 때문이다. 국제자연보호연맹과 CITES에서 모두 멸종위기종으로 선정되어 있으며, 현재 대부분의 국가에서는 보호조치가 내려져 있다.

Green sea turtle

The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), also known as the green turtle, black (sea) turtle or Pacific green turtle, is a large sea turtle of the family Cheloniidae. It is the only species in the genus Chelonia. Its range extends throughout tropical and subtropical seas around the world, with two distinct populations in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, but it is also found in the Indian Ocean.
