한양도성

서울 한양도성은 조선 시대 한양을 둘러싼 도성이다. 좁은 의미로는 서울을 둘러싼 성곽과 문을 지칭하나, 넓은 의미로는 성곽과 그 안의 공간을 말한다. 조선 시대에는 줄여서 한성으로 불렸으며, 사적으로서의 명칭은 지정 당시 서울성곽으로 정했다가 2011년 현재의 명칭으로 바뀌었다.

Fortress Wall of Seoul

The Hanyangdoseong (Seoul City Wall) is a series of walls made of stone, wood and other materials, built to protect the city of Seoul against invaders. The wall was first built in 1396 to defend and show the boundaries of the city, surrounding Hanyang in the Joseon Dynasty. At that time, it was called Hansung. The wall stretches 18.6 km along the ridge of Seoul's four inner mountains, Baegaksan, Naksan, Namsan, and Inwangsan.
