계백 (?-660)

계백은 백제 말기의 장군이다. 660년 나(羅)·당(唐) 연합군이 백제를 침공했을 때 5천 군사를 이끌고 논산 황산서 5만여 명의 신라군을 맞아 네 차례의 전투를 벌인 끝에 장렬하게 전사했다. 성충, 흥수와 함께 백제의 3충신이라 불리며, 자신의 목숨까지 버려가면서 무너져가는 나라에 대한 충성을 끝까지 지킨 충신의 표상으로 알려져 있다.

Gyebaek (?-660)

Gaebaek was a general in the ancient Korean kingdom of Baekje during the early to mid 7th century. Little else is known of his personal life—including the year and location of his birth. However, as a teenager, he was put into slavery and working in Silla. He escaped after a battle against Silla and Baekje.
