고후쿠지

고후쿠지는 669년, 후지와라 가문의 선조인 나카토미노 가마타리가 자신의 병을 치료하기 위해 교토에 세운 야마시나데라가 시초이다. 이후 710년 나라(헤이조쿄)로 천도하면서 현재의 위치로 이전되었고, 이름이 고후쿠지로 바뀌었다. 사찰에는 오층탑과 삼층탑, 동금당, 북원당 등이 있으며, 아수라상, 팔부중·십대제자 입상 등 대부분이 국보로 지정돼 있다. 고후쿠지의 상징인 오층탑은 일본에서 두 번째로 높은 오층탑(가장 높은 것은 교토 도지의 오층탑)으로 높이는 약 50.1m이며 현재의 탑은 1426년에 재건된 것이다. 고후쿠지는 나라 공원 안에 자리해 있어 도다이지나 가스가타이샤 등 다른 명소와 함께 관람하기 좋으며 사슴과 함께 산책하는 여행지로도 유명하다.

Kofukuji

Kōfuku-ji has its origin as a temple that was established in 669 by Kagami-no-Ōkimi, the wife of Fujiwara no Kamatari, wishing for her husband’s recovery from illness. Its original site was in Yamashina, Yamashiro Province (Kyoto). In 672, the temple was moved to Fujiwara-kyō, the first planned Japanese capital to copy the orthogonal grid pattern of Chang'an. In 710, the temple was dismantled for the second time and moved to its present location, on the east side of the newly constructed capital, Heijō-kyō, today's Nara.
