산드로 보티첼리 (1445-1510)

초기 르네상스의 뛰어난 화가로 유명하다. 주로 피렌체의 공방에서 메디치 가문의 의뢰를 받아 역사, 신화, 종교 작품과 초상화를 제작했다. 그의 작품 ‘비너스의 탄생’은 르네상스 초기를 대표하는 미술 작품들 중 하나이다. 본명은 알레산드로 디 마리아노 필리페피(Alessandro di Mariano Fillipepi)이지만 술을 워낙 좋아해서 보티첼리(작은 술통이라는 뜻)라는 별명으로 더 잘 알려져 있다. 프라 필리포 리피 문하의 제자였고 그에게서 그림을 배웠다. 그리고 훗날 프라 필리포 리피의 아들인 필리피노 리피는 보티첼리에게 그림을 배웠다.

Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510)

Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance. Botticelli's posthumous reputation suffered until the late 19th century, when he was rediscovered by the Pre-Raphaelites who stimulated a reappraisal of his work. Since then, his paintings have been seen to represent the linear grace of late Italian Gothic and some Early Renaissance painting, even though they date from the latter half of the Italian Renaissance period.
