1974년 FIFA 월드컵

아시아와 아프리카 국가들이 FIFA 월드컵에 대한 관심을 보이면서 참가국들이 급속히 늘어났고 동독이 마지막으로 본선에 출전했다. 이번 월드컵에선 동독과 서독이 월드컵 본선에 사상 처음으로 동반진출했다. 우승 팀은 서독으로 네덜란드를 2대1로 꺾었다. 이는 1954년 이래 두 번째 우승이다. 이 대회부터는 현재까지 사용하고 있는 FIFA컵이 우승국에게 전달되었다. 그 이전 대회까지 사용하던 줄 리메 컵은 브라질의 3번째 우승으로 브라질이 영구 보관을 하게 되었고 이에 따라 새로운 트로피를 만든 것이다.

1974 FIFA World Cup

The 1974 FIFA World Cup was the 10th FIFA World Cup, and was played in West Germany (including West Berlin) between 13 June and 7 July. The tournament marked the first time that the current trophy, the FIFA World Cup Trophy, created by the Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga, was awarded. The previous trophy, the Jules Rimet Trophy, had been won for the third time by Brazil in 1970 and awarded permanently to the Brazilians. The host nation won the title, beating the Netherlands 2–1 in the final at Munich's Olympiastadion.
