오이디푸스

오이디푸스는 그리스 신화에 등장하는 도시 테바이의 왕이다. 어머니와 아내는 이오카스테이고, 아버지는 라이오스이다. 오이디푸스란 이름의 뜻은 ‘부은 발’이다. 라이오스와 이오카스테가 오이디푸스를 버릴 때, 어린 오이디푸스의 발목을 묶어서 버렸고 따라서 오이디푸스란 이름을 얻게 되었다.

Oedipus

Oedipus was a mythical Greek king of Thebes. A tragic hero in Greek mythology, Oedipus accidentally fulfilled a prophecy that he would end up killing his father and marrying his mother, thereby bringing disaster to his city and family. The story of Oedipus is the subject of Sophocles' tragedy Oedipus Rex, which is followed in the narrative sequence by Oedipus at Colonus and then Antigone.
