엔리코 페르미 (1901-1954)

엔리코 퍼미는 이탈리아계 미국인 물리학자이다. 세계 최초의 핵반응로인 시카고파일 1호를 개발하여 “핵시대의 설계자”, “원자폭탄의 설계자”라고 불린다. 이론과 실험 양면에서 모두 뛰어난 성취를 거둔 드문 물리학자 중 한 명이다. 원자력 이용에 관한 여러 특허를 보유했고 1938년에는 중성자 충격을 통한 유도방사능 연구 및 초우라늄 원소의 발견 공로로 노벨 물리학상을 받았다. 페르미는 양자론, 핵물리학, 입자물리학, 통계역학의 발전에 지대한 기여를 남겼다.

Enrico Fermi (1901-1954)

Enrico Fermi was an Italian (later naturalized American) physicist and the creator of the world's first nuclear reactor, the Chicago Pile-1. He has been called the "architect of the nuclear age" and the "architect of the atomic bomb". He was one of very few physicists to excel in both theoretical physics and experimental physics. Fermi was awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on induced radioactivity by neutron bombardment and for the discovery of transuranium elements.
