우드 버펄로 국립공원

캐나다 북중부 지역의 평원에 있는 면적 4,480,000㏊의 이 공원은 북아메리카에서 개체 수가 가장 많은 야생들소의 서식지이다. 이곳은 또한 미국흰두루미(whooping crane)에게 천혜의 보금자리이기도 하다. 이 공원의 또 다른 볼거리는 피스(Peace) 강과 애서배스카(Athabasca) 강의 어귀에 있는 세계 최대의 내륙 삼각주이다.

Wood Buffalo National Park

Wood Buffalo National Park is the largest National Park of Canada at 44,807 km2 (17,300 sq mi). It is located in northeastern Alberta and the southern Northwest Territories. Larger in area than Switzerland, it is the second-largest national park in the world.

아메리카들소

아메리카들소(American bison)는 북아메리카에 사는 소과 포유동물이다. 어깨높이 약 150 cm, 몸무게 최대 1,380 kg 정도이며, 다른소들보다 길어서 몸길이 최대 3.8m에 이른다. 머리와 목이 크고 어깨에 혹이 있다. 몸빛은 갈빛을 띠는 검은색이다. 길고 거친 털이 머리·목·혹을 덮고 있고, 목과 턱에도 긴 수염처럼 털이 나 있다.

American bison

The American bison or simply bison (Bison bison), also commonly known as the American buffalo or simply buffalo, is a North American species of bison that once roamed the grasslands of North America in vast herds. They became nearly extinct by a combination of commercial hunting and slaughter in the 19th century and introduction of bovine diseases from domestic cattle, but have made a recent resurgence largely restricted to a few national parks and reserves.
