인어공주 상
덴마크 코펜하겐의 상징인 인어공주상은 안데르센의 동화 '인어공주'에서 영감을 받아 제작된 세계적인 조각상으로 바닷가 바위 위에 쓸쓸히 앉아 먼바다를 바라보는 모습은 동화 속 비극적인 결말을 연상시켜 묘한 감동을 준다. 이 조각상은 1913년 에드바르드 에릭슨에 의해 만들어졌는데 얼굴은 당시 유명한 발레리나였던 엘렌 프라이스를 모델로 했고, 몸은 작가의 아내인 엘린 에릭슨을 모델로 삼아 제작되었다. 높이가 약 1.25m 정도로 생각보다 작아 "세계 3대 허무 명소" 중 하나라는 농담도 있지만 전 세계의 사랑을 받는 만큼 수난도 많았다. 여러 차례 페인트를 뒤집어쓰거나 머리와 팔이 잘려나가는 반달리즘(문화유산 파괴)의 희생양이 되기도 했다.
The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid is a bronze statue by Edvard Eriksen, depicting a mermaid becoming human. The sculpture is displayed on a rock by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is 1.25 m tall and weighs 175 kilograms. Based on the 1837 fairy tale of the same name by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the small and unimposing statue is a Copenhagen icon and has been a major tourist attraction since its unveiling in 1913. In recent decades it has become a popular target for defacement by vandals and political activists.
