바티칸 미술관

바티칸 미술관은 로마의 비알레 바티카노 바티칸 시 내부에 있는 세계 최대급 규모의 미술관 가운데 한 곳이다. 로마 가톨릭교회에 의해 세워진 광대한 전시관에는 수세기에 걸친 예술품들이 진열되어 있다. 바티칸 미술관은 16세기에 교황 율리오 2세에 의해 설립되었다. 바티칸 미술관과 통하는 경로에는 시스티나 성당과 라파엘로가 장식한 서명의 방이 있다.

Vatican Museums

The Vatican Museums are Christian and art museums located within the city boundaries of the Vatican City. They display works from the immense collection amassed by Popes throughout the centuries including some of the most renowned classical sculptures and most important masterpieces of Renaissance art in the world. The museums contain roughly 70,000 works, of which 20,000 are on display, and currently employ 640 people who work in 40 different administrative, scholarly, and restoration departments.

Transfiguration

The Transfiguration is the last painting by the Italian High Renaissance master Raphael. Commissioned by Cardinal Giulio de Medici, the later Pope Clement VII (1523–1534) and conceived as an altarpiece for the Narbonne Cathedral in France, Raphael worked on it until his death in 1520. The painting exemplifies Raphael's development as an artist and the culmination of his career.

라오콘 군상

라오콘 군상은 트로이 신관 라오콘과 그의 두 아들이 포세이돈의 저주를 받는 장면을 묘사한 고대 그리스 조각상이다. 이 작품은 1506년에 로마에서 발굴되어 바티칸에서 대중에 공개된 이후 가장 유명한 그리스 조각 중 하나가 되었다. 이례적으로 플리니우스가 극찬한 조각상과 매우 비슷하다. 트로이의 신관 라오콘과 그의 두 아들이 바다 뱀으로부터 공격을 당하는 모습을 묘사하며, 인물들의 크기는 실제 인간의 크기와 비슷하며, 높이는 2미터가 약간 넘는다.

The statue of Laocoon and His Sons, also called the Laocoon Group, has been one of the most famous ancient sculptures ever since it was excavated in Rome in 1506 and placed on public display in the Vatican,where it remains. It is very likely the same statue praised in the highest terms by the main Roman writer on art, Pliny the Elder.

토르소

이탈리아어로 '몸통'이라는 뜻에서 유래되었으며, 고대 그리스나 로마의 유적지에서 발굴해 낸 조각상 중 몸통만 남은 것들에서 독자적인 아름다움을 발견한 근대조각가들이 이를 본따 만들어낸 일련의 조각들에서 시작되었다. 토르소라는 용어가 완전히 자리잡은 건 대략 19세기 정도이다.

Belvedere Torso

The Belvedere Torso is a fragmentary marble statue of a nude male, known to be in Rome from the 1430s, and signed prominently on the front of the base by "Apollonios, son of Nestor, Athenian", who is unmentioned in ancient literature. It is now in the Museo Pio-Clementino (Inv. 1192) of the Vatican Museums.
