하시마섬

하시마 섬은 일본 나가사키시에 있는 무인도이다. 섬의 모습이 마치 군함과 비슷하게 생겼기 때문에 군칸지마(군함도)라고도 불린다. 1940년부터 1945년까지 조선인을 강제 징용하여 석탄 노동을 시킨 곳이기도 하며 또한 1960년대까지 탄광 도시로서 많은 사람들이 거주하고 있었지만, 폐산 이후 주민들이 이주하였으며, 섬에는 당시의 건물들이 그대로 남아 있었다. 강제 노역에 대해 명시하겠다는 조건을 통해 간신히 유네스코에 등재하였으나, 직후 태도를 바꾸어 강제 노동의 사실을 언급하지 않고 있다.

Hashima Island

It is one of 505 uninhabited islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. The island's most notable features are its abandoned concrete buildings, undisturbed except by nature, and the surrounding sea wall. While the island is a symbol of the rapid industrialization of Japan, it is also a reminder of its dark history as a site of forced labor prior to and during the Second World War
