뤼미에르 형제 (1862-1954, 1864-1948)

뤼미에르 형제는 프랑스의 발명가 형제 오귀스트 마리 루이 니콜라 뤼미에르와 루이 장 뤼미에르를 가리킨다. 기계 제작자인 동시에 제작･흥행･배급 등 현재의 영화제작 보급형태의 선구적 역할을 한 영화의 시조이다. 시네마토그래프를 발명하여 이를 이용하여 처음으로 영화를 찍었다. 주요 작품으로는 《리옹의 뤼미에르 공장을 나서는 노동자들》,《열차의 도착》 등이 있다.

Auguste and Louis Lumiere (1862-1954, 1864-1948)

The Lumière brothers, Auguste Marie Louis Nicolas and Louis Jean were manufacturers of photography equipment, best known for their Cinématographe motion picture system and the short films they produced between 1895 and 1905. Their screening on 22 March 1895 for circa 200 members of the "Society for the Development of the National Industry" in Paris was probably the first presentation of films on a screen for a large audience. Their first commercial public screening on 28 December 1895 for circa 40 paying visitors and invited relations has traditionally been regarded as the birth of cinema.
