야히코 신사

야히코 신사는 수백 년간 성소로 받들어진 곳으로, 신토 종교와 얽힌 수많은 전설이 이곳과 관련이 있다. 야히코 신사의 기원은 신토의 신 ‘아마테라스 오미카미’의 증손이 호쿠리쿠 지역에 정착한 시기로 전해지는 기원전 657년까지 거슬러 올라간다. 그는 이곳에 살던 사람들에게 농경에 필요한 각종 기술을 전수했다고 한다. 11월에는 국화 축제에는 3만여 송이의 국화가 꽃을 피운 화단이 이곳 일대를 일본 최대 규모의 국화 축제가 열린다. 성산의 신비로운 분위기에 잘 어울리는 유카케 축제는 참가자가 어깨에 영험한 샘물을 담은 통을 얹고 기원을 드리는 신기한 장면을 볼 수 있다. 도로 축제는 1천여 년간 명맥을 이어온 축제로 민속요에 맞추어 춤을 추고 등불 퍼레이드와 불꽃놀이로 정점을 장식한다.

Yahiko Shrine

Yahiko jinja is a Shinto shrine in the Yahiko neighborhood of the village of Yahiko, Nishikanbara District, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the three shrines which claim the title of ichinomiya of former Echigo Province. The shrine's annual festival is held on February 2. This shrine standing at the foot of a mountain is popularly and traditionally known as a power spot for love and good fortune. The shrine is located within Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park and is on the eastern base of Mount Yahiko, a 634-meter sacred mountain which forms the shintai of the shrine.
