레기스탄 광장

레기스탄 광장은 우즈베키스탄의 역사도시 사마르칸트의 중심에 위치한 중앙아시아를 대표하는 광장으로, 실크로드 시대 문화와 이슬람 건축의 정수를 보여주는 세계적인 명소이다. 광장 주변에는 15세기에 건립된 울루그베크 마드라사와 17세기의 셰르도르 마드라사, 틸랴코리 마드라사가 웅장하게 자리하고 있으며, 푸른 타일과 정교한 모자이크 장식, 거대한 아치형 입구가 조화를 이루어 이슬람 건축의 아름다움을 극적으로 보여준다. 과거에는 왕실의 공식 행사와 시장, 교육 활동이 이루어지는 정치·문화·학문의 중심지였으며, 오늘날에는 사마르칸트를 상징하는 랜드마크이자 중앙아시아에서 가장 아름다운 역사 광장으로 손꼽힌다. 레기스탄 광장은 사마르칸트 역사 지구의 일부로 2001년 유네스코 세계유산에 등재되었다.

Samarkand – Crossroad of Cultures

The historic town of Samarkand is a crossroad and melting pot of the world's cultures. Founded in the 7th century B.C. as ancient Afrasiab, Samarkand had its most significant development in the Timurid period from the 14th to the 15th centuries. The major monuments include the Registan Mosque and madrasas, Bibi-Khanum Mosque, the Shakhi-Zinda compound and the Gur-Emir ensemble, as well as Ulugh-Beg's Observatory.
