베를린 장벽

베를린 장벽은 동독이 건설한 것으로서 서베를린을 동베를린과 그 밖의 동독으로부터 분리하는 장벽이었다. 그래서 서베를린을 공산주의 국가안의 유일한 자본주의 지역이라고 해서 '육지의 섬'이라고 불렀다. 하지만, 동독의 관리들은 이 장벽을 반 파시스트 보호벽이라고 불렀다. 냉전의 상징이자 독일의 분단을 상징하여 왔다.

The Berlin Wall was a guarded concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. Constructed by the German Democratic Republic, starting on 13 August 1961, the Wall cut off West Berlin from virtually all of surrounding East Germany and East Berlin until government officials opened it in November 1989.
