체크포인트 찰리

체크포인트 찰리 또는 단순히 체크포인트 C는 냉전 당시 동베를린과 서베를린을 분단하던 베를린 장벽의 가장 유명한 검문소를 연합군에서 지칭했던 지명이다. 동독과 소련에 의해, 동쪽에서 서쪽으로 소련의 국경선을 넘으며 동베를린에서 서베를린으로 사람들이 넘어가는 것을 방지하기 위해서 1961년에 베를린 장벽이 세워졌었다.

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie was the name given by the Western Allies to the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War (1947–1991). East German leader Walter Ulbricht agitated and maneuvered to get the Soviet Union's permission to construct the Berlin Wall in 1961 to stop Eastern Bloc emigration and defection westward through the Soviet border system, preventing escape across the city sector border from communist East Berlin into West Berlin.
