왓 트라이밋

왓 트라이밋은 방콕 차이나타운 근처에 위치한 사원으로 황금 불상 사원이라고도 부른다. 1955년 황금 불상을 옮기는 중에 불상이 떨어지면서 불상 외부의 석회가 부서지고 안쪽의 황금 불상이 나타났다고 한다. 불상의 크기는 높이 3m, 무게 5.5t이 나가는 거대 불상이다. 이 불상은 14세기 수코타이 왕조 때 만들어진 것으로 추정되며, 미얀마군의 약탈을 막기 위해서 석회를 덮어 위장했던 것 같다.

Golden Buddha (statue)

The Golden Buddha, officially titled Phra Phuttha Maha Suwana Patimakon, is a gold statue, with a weight of 5.5 tons (5,500 kilograms). It is located in the temple of Wat Traimit, Bangkok, Thailand. At one point in its history the statue was covered with a layer of stucco and coloured glass to conceal its true value, and it remained in this condition for almost 200 years, ending up at what was then a pagoda of minor significance.
