바스

바스 로마 목욕탕(Roman Baths)은 영국 잉글랜드 남서부의 도시 바스(Bath)에 있는 고대 로마 시대의 목욕 시설 유적입니다. 약 2,000년 전 로마인들이 건설한 것으로, 현재까지도 당시의 석조 건축물과 온천 시설이 비교적 잘 보존되어 있습니다. 바스는 지하에서 솟아나는 천연 온천수로 유명하며, 로마인들은 이곳에 신성한 온천과 목욕 시설을 조성했습니다. 중심부에는 녹색빛 온천수가 고인 그레이트 배스(Great Bath)가 있으며, 주변에는 로마 시대의 사원과 목욕 시설 유적이 남아 있습니다. 바스의 로마 목욕탕은 인근의 바스 수도원(Bath Abbey)과 조지아 시대의 아름다운 건축물들과 함께 도시의 대표적인 관광 명소를 이루고 있으며, '바스 시' 전체가 유네스코 세계문화유산으로 등재되어 있습니다.

Roman Baths

Founded by the Romans as a thermal spa, Bath became an important centre of the wool industry in the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, under George III, it developed into an elegant town with neoclassical Palladian buildings, which blend harmoniously with the Roman baths.
