아홀로틀

아홀로틀 또는 멕시코도롱뇽은 점박이도롱뇽과의 일종으로, 유형 성숙을 볼 수 있는 종이다. 우파루파라고도 부른다. 올챙이는 어른으로 탈바꿈을 할 수 없으며, 이에 따라 다 자란 후에도 겉아가미를 지녀야 하고, 물에서 살아야 한다. 번식이 쉽고 잃어버린 신체를 쉽게 재생하고 놀라운 장기이식 능력(다른 아홀로틀의 장기를 이식받아도 거부반응이 전혀 없다.) 때문에 과학연구용 및 애완동물용으로 널리 이용된다.

Axolotl

The axolotl, Ambystoma mexicanum, also known as the Mexican walking fish, is a neotenic salamander related to the tiger salamander. Although the axolotl is colloquially known as a "walking fish", it is not a fish, but an amphibian. The species originates from numerous lakes, such as Lake Xochimilco underlying Mexico City.
