경인선
경인선은 한국 최초의 철도로 1899년 인천 제물포에서 노량진까지 개통되었으며 이후 1900년에 서울(남대문)까지 연장되었다. 이 철도는 한성(서울)과 인천을 연결하기 위해 건설된 것으로, 근대 교통의 시작을 의미한다. 처음에는 미국인 모스(J.R. Morse)가 부설권을 얻었으나, 자금난으로 일본 자본에 넘어가 일본이 완공했다. 1899년 9월 18일, 인천 제물포와 노량진을 잇는 약 33km 구간이 최초로 개통되고 이후 1900년 한강 철교가 완성되면서 서울의 남대문(경성역)까지 전 구간이 완전히 개통되었다. 경인선은 개통 당시 조선 근대화의 상징이었고, 물자와 사람의 이동을 빠르게 하여 경제와 문화 교류에 큰 영향을 미쳤다.

It first started operating on September 18, 1899, and since then, Incheon Station has been a station that has handled large volumes of cargo and people. It became a subway station with the opening of subway line 1 of the metropolitan subway in 1974. In 2016, the line was extended with the re-opening of the Suin Line (from Incheon to Oido Island). The steam locomotive stone statue in front of the station conveys the message that it is the station that represents the birth of “Korean railroad’.
