인천역

인천역은 우리나라 최초의 철도인 경인선과 수인선의 종착역이자 수도권 전철에서 가장 오래된 역이다. 경인선 일반열차(비둘기호)가 다니던 시절인 1960년에 지어진 건물을 아직까지 사용하고 있어서 수도권 전철역답지 않은 간이역 분위기가 물씬 풍기는 역이다.

Incheon Station

Incheon Station is the last station of Korea’s first railroad Gyeongin Line and Suin Line, and it is thus the oldest station in the metropolitan subway. It still uses the building that was built in 1960 when Gyeongin Line’s general train (Train Bidulgi-ho) ran through; for this reason, it seems to be a way station rather than a metropolitan station.

한국 철도 탄생역 (인천 - 노량진, 1899.9.18)

1899년 9월 18일 운행을 시작해 지금도 많은 화물과 승객이 오가는 역으로 1974년 수도권 전철 1호선 개통과 함께 전철역이 되었고, 2016년에는 수인선(인천~오이도)이 재개통되며 노선이 확장되었다. 역사 앞, 돌을 깎아 만든 증기기관차 조각물이 ‘한국철도 탄생역’이라는 사실을 알려 주고 있다.

Birthplace of Korea's Railroad (Incheon - Noryangjin, 1899.9.18)

It first started operating on September 18, 1899, and since then, Incheon Station has been a station that has handled large volumes of cargo and people. It became a subway station with the opening of subway line 1 of the metropolitan subway in 1974. In 2016, the line was extended with the re-opening of the Suin Line (from Incheon to Oido Island). The steam locomotive stone statue in front of the station conveys the message that it is the station that represents the birth of “Korean railroad’.
