바단지린사막

바단지린 사막은 내몽골 자치구 서부에 위치한 사막으로, '중국에서 가장 아름다운 사막'으로 손꼽히며 2024년 7월에는 그 가치를 인정받아 유네스코 세계자연유산으로 등재되었다. 몽골어로 '바단지린'은 '신비로운 호수'를 뜻하는데, 약 140여 개의 호수가 점점이 박혀 있으며 소금 호수뿐만 아니라 맑은 담수 호수도 존재한다. '사막의 에베레스트'라 불리는 '비루트봉(必魯圖峰)'은 해발 약 1,611m로 세계에서 가장 높은 모래 산이다. 사막 깊숙한 곳, 호숫가에는 1868년에 세워진 바단지린 사찰이 있으며 '사막의 자금성'이라 불리는 이 티베트 불교 사원은 고립된 위치 덕분에 전란을 피해 원형을 잘 보존하고 있다.

Badain Jaran Desert

Located in the Alashan Plateau in the hyper-arid and temperate desert region of northwestern China, the Badain Jaran Desert is a meeting point for three sandy regions of China and is the country’s third largest desert and second largest drifting desert. The property stands out with its high density of mega-dunes, intersected with inter-dunal lakes.
