1992년, 하노버 96은 인상적인 활약을 연속으로 보이면서 첫 DFB-포칼 우승을 거미쥐었고, 재정난을 어느정도 완화시켰다. 포칼 우승을 달성하는 과정에서 분데스리가에 속한 보루시아 도르트문트, VfL 보훔, 카를스루에 SC, SV 베르더 브레멘, 보루시아 묀헨글라트바흐를 제압하였고, 그에 따라 하노버 96은 1부리그에 속한 팀을 제외하고는 첫 번째 우승 팀이 되었다.

Hannover's stadium is the HDI-Arena. Hannover 96 has a major rivalry with Eintracht Braunschweig.
