홍길동

<홍길동전>은 조선 중기의 문인 허균이 지은 소설로, 우리나라 최초의 한글 소설이자 신분 차별을 비판한 고전 소설이다. 홍길동은 양반의 서자로 태어나 총명하고 재능이 뛰어나지만, 첩의 자식이라는 이유로 차별받으며 "아버지를 아버지라 부르지 못하고, 형을 형이라 부르지 못하는"처지에 놓인다. 사회의 부당함에 분노한 그는 집을 떠나 도적 무리를 이끌고 부패한 관리들의 재물을 빼앗아 가난한 백성에게 나누어주며 정의를 실현한다. 결국 홍길동은 이상 사회를 세우기 위해 율도국을 건국하고, 그곳에서 모든 사람이 신분에 관계없이 평등하게 사는 세상을 만든다.

Hong Gildong

Hong Gildong was born in the village of Achisil in Agok-ri, Jangseong county, Jeolla province, and was the illegitimate son of Hong Sangjik, and the illegitimate grandson of Hong Jing. Hong Gildong, in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, was recorded to be born around the year 1443, or the 25th year of the reign of Sejong, and to have deceased around the year 1510, or the 5th year of the reign of Jungjong.
