명량해전 (1597.10.25)

명량 해전은 1597년(선조 30) 정유재란 때 이순신이 지휘하는 조선 수군 13척이 명량에서 일본 수군 130척 이상을 격퇴한 해전이었다. 난중일기상으로 전투에 참여한 일본 수군의 전선 130여 척 중 30여 척이 격침되었고, 왜군의 중형 군선에는 약 100명씩 타고 있었으므로 최소 3000여 명의 전사자가 났을 것으로 예상할 수 있지만 난중잡록을 통해서 더 많은 피해가 있었음을 알 수 있다.

Battle of Myeongnyang (1597.10.25)

In the Battle of Myeongnyang, on October 26, 1597, the Korean Joseon kingdom's navy, led by Admiral Yi Sun-sin, fought the Japanese navy in the Myeongnyang Strait, near Jindo Island, off the southwest corner of the Korean peninsula. With only 13 ships remaining from Admiral Won Gyun's disastrous defeat at the Battle of Chilchonryang, Admiral Yi held the strait as a "last stand" battle against the Japanese Navy, who were sailing to support their land army's advance towards the Joseon capital of Hanyang.
