마우나케아산

마우나케아 산의 전체 높이(해저부터)는 10,100m이며,(이 전체 높이는 에베레스트 산보다도 높다.) 해수면 위로만 쟀을 때에도 4,207m나 된다. 만약 마우나케아 산이 해수면 위로의 높이가 10,100미터라면 대류권을 돌파할 것이다. 바다 위로 솟아오른 이 산은 윗부분 중 절반이 하와이 섬을 이루고 있고, 나머지는 바다 밑바닥에 감추어져 있다.
