카이트베이 성채

1480년에 맘루크 왕조의 술탄 카이트 베이가 투르크 군의 공격으로부터 해안선을 방어하기 위해 이 지점에 요새를 건축하고 내부에 모스크를 세웠다. 오스만 터키 제국이 이집트를 점령한 뒤로는 카이트 베이 요새의 군사적 중요성이 크게 축소되어 장인들의 공방이나 상점 등이 요새 곳곳에 들어서게 되었다.

Citadel of Qaitbay

The Citadel of Qaitbay is a 15th-century defensive fortress located on the Mediterranean sea coast, in Alexandria, Egypt. It was established in 1477 AD (882 AH)[citation needed] by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay. The Citadel is situated on the eastern side of the northern tip of Pharos Island at the mouth of the Eastern Harbour.
