전두환(1931-2021)

1979년 3월에는 국군보안사령관으로 임명되었는데, 같은 해 10.26 사건이 터지자 계엄법에 의거하여 보안사령관으로서 합동수사본부장을 맡게 되었다. 이때 수사본부장이라는 직책과 자신이 이끌고 있던 하나회를 통한 12.12 군사반란으로 군을 장악하였고, 이듬해 1980년엔 5.17 내란을 일으켜 헌정을 중단하였다. 이후 5.18 민주화운동을 진압하고 국가보위비상대책위원회를 신설하여 국정의 실권을 장악하였다...

Chun Doohwan (1931-2021)

He was the country's de facto leader from December 1979 to September 1980, ruling as unelected military dictator with civilian president Choi Kyu-hah largely as a figurehead. Chun would eventually usurp power for himself after orchestrating the 12 December 1979 military coup in the aftermath of the assassination of president Park Chung-hee, who was himself another military dictator ruling since 1962.
