간다라 미술

알렉산드로스 대왕의 침략으로 인하여 헬레니즘 문화의 영향을 받은 미술로 그리스-불교미술 혹은 로마-불교미술이라고도 칭하였다. 이 미술은 대월지족이 세운 쿠샨 왕조에서 카니슈카 왕의 통치 아래서 가장 번성하였다. 간다라 미술은 인물의 생김새가 사실적이고 개성적이며 매우 자연스럽고, 감각적이다.

Gandhara

Gandhāra is the name of an ancient region located in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent, more precisely in present-day north-west Pakistan and parts of south-east Afghanistan. The region centered around the Peshawar Valley and Swat river valley, though the cultural influence of "Greater Gandhara" extended across the Indus river to the Taxila region in Potohar Plateau and westwards into the Kabul Valley in Afghanistan, and northwards up to the Karakoram range.
