엔히크 항해왕자 (1394-1460)

포르투갈 아비스가의 왕자이며 포르투갈 왕국 초창기의 주요 인물이다. 서아프리카 연안탐사와 대서양 탐험과 개척을 이끌고 지원하였다. 포르투에서 아비스 왕조의 시조 주앙 1세의 셋째 아들로 태어났다. 1415년 북아프리카의 세우타를 정복전에 직접 참전하여 싸웠으며, 정복에 성공한 후 세운 공을 인정받아 두 명의 형들과 함께 세우타에서 기사로 서임받았다. 1418년 이후 아프리카 서해안에 많은 탐험선을 보내어 항로를 개척하기에 주력했다.

Prince Henry the Navigator (1394-1460)

Prince Henry the Navigator was a central figure in the early days of the Portuguese Empire and in the 15th-century European maritime discoveries and maritime expansion. Through his administrative direction, he is regarded as the main initiator of what would be known as the Age of Discovery. Henry was the fourth child of King Dom John I of Portugal, who founded the House of Aviz.
