산프란시스코 성당 (리마 역사 지구)

‘왕들의 도시’라고 불리는 리마는 몇 차례의 지진으로 심하게 손상되었지만, 18세기 중엽까지 스페인이 남아메리카를 지배하는 데 있어서 가장 중요한 중심 도시였다. 이 도시에 있는 많은 건물은 이 지역의 장인과 유럽에서 건너온 장인이 힘을 합쳐 함께 세웠으며, 그 가운데 산 프란시스코 수녀원은 남아메리카 지역에서 규모가 가장 큰 종교 건축물이다.

Basílica and Convent of San Francisco

The monumental complex of the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco of Lima, also known as "San Francisco el Grande" or "San Francisco de Jesús", is located in the Historic Center of Lima, Peru. This church together with the Sanctuary Nuestra Señora de la Soledad and the Church del Milagro set up one of the welcoming and artistic corners of Lima. Ramón Menéndez Pidal, Spanish philologist and scholar in this regard commented: "It is the largest and noblest monument that erected in these prodigious lands the conquest". The church and convent are part of the Historic Centre of Lima, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1991.
