킨카쿠지

본래 무로마치 막부의 제3대 쇼군 아시카가 요시미츠(足利義満)가 별장으로 건립한 건물이었으나 그의 사후 절이 되었다. 1467년 발생한 오닌의 난 당시 교토의 다른 건물과 함께 불탔으며, 이후 재건되었다. 과거부터 교토를 대표하는 문화재 중 하나로 국보의 지위를 갖고 있었으나, 1950년 견습 승려의 방화에 의해 사리전이 소실되었다. 현재의 누각은 1955년 복원하였는데, 국보의 지위는 회복하지 못했고 중요문화재로 남아 있다. 1994년 유네스코의 세계문화유산으로 지정되었다.

Kinkaku-ji

Kinkaku-ji is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the most popular buildings in Kyoto, attracting many visitors annually. It is designated as a National Special Historic Site, a National Special Landscape and is one of 17 locations making up the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto which are World Heritage Sites. Kinkaku-ji was ranked the No. 85 Most Holy Place on Earth by religious leaders, writers and scholars in the Patheos multi-faith religion project Sacred Spaces: The 100 Most Holy Places on Earth.
