오악사카 역사 중심지와 몬테 알반 고고 유적

오악사카(Oaxaca)는 스페인 식민지 이전의 1500여 년 동안 올멕(Olmecs), 사포텍(Zapotecs), 믹스텍(Mixtecs) 종족이 살았던 지역이다. 이곳의 계단식 관람석과 댐, 운하, 피라미드, 그리고 산을 깎아서 만든 몬테 알반의 인공 산은 신성한 지형을 상징하고 있다. 오악사카의 주변 도시는 스페인 정복 시기의 그리드 패턴(grid pattern, 격자형 도시 계획)을 잘 보여 준다. 견고하고 두껍게 지은 건축물들은, 지진 발생 빈도가 높은 지형·자연환경의 특징에 적응하여 건축된 것으로 보석 같은 아름다운 건축물들이다.

Monte Albán

Monte Albán is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site in the Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán Municipality in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. The site is located on a low mountainous range rising above the plain in the central section of the Valley of Oaxaca where the latter's northern Etla, eastern Tlacolula, and southern Zimatlán & Ocotlán branches meet.
