율곡 이이 (1536-1584)

이이는 조선의 문신이자 성리학자이다. 본관은 덕수. 자는 숙헌, 호는 율곡이다. 관직은 이조판서에 이르렀다. 시호는 문성이다. 서인의 영수로 추대되었다. 이언적, 이황, 송시열, 박세채, 김집과 함께 문묘 종사와 종묘 배향을 동시에 이룬 6현 중 하나다. 장지는 경기도 파주시 법원읍 동문리 자운산 선영에 장사되었다.

Yi I (1536-1584)

Yi I was one of the two most prominent Korean Confucian scholars of the Joseon Dynasty, the other being his older contemporary, Yi Hwang. Yi I is often referred to by his pen name Yulgok. He is not only known as a scholar but also as a revered politician and reformer.[2] He was academical successor of Jo Gwang-jo.
