청도 소싸움

소싸움이 언제부터 시작되었는지 문헌상 기록이 없어 정확히 알 수는 없으나 이땅에 농경문화가 정착한 시대에 목동들이 망중한을 즐기기 위한 즉흥적인 놀이로 시작하여 차차 그 규모가 확산되어 부락단위 또는 씨족단위로 번져 서로의 명예를 걸고 가세(家勢) 또는 족세(族勢)과시의 장으로 이용되었다.

Cheongdo Bullfighting

Korea has a long tradition of bullfighting. The Gyeongsangbuk-do (North Gyeongsang Province) in particular, has a bullfighting competition that dates back 1000 years, and is now the home of the country's largest bullfighting festival.
