5·16 군사 정변

5·16 군사 정변은 1961년 5월 15일 저녁부터 1961년 5월 18일 정오 무렵까지 서울, 부산, 대전, 광주, 김포, 부평, 수색, 포천 등에서 임시적 군정 실시를 목적으로 일어난 쿠데타를 말한다. 주동자는 서울을 관할하는 제6 관구의 전 사령관이었던 박정희로 밝혀졌으며 십수명의 유능한 장성 및 수십명의 핵심 영관급 장교들과의 사전모의를 통하여 군정 수립 하고자 하였다.

The May 16 military coup was a military coupt in South Korea in 1961, organized and carried out by Park Chung-hee and his allies who formed the Military Revolutionary Committee, nominally led by Army Chief of Staff Chang Do-yong after the latter's acquiescence on the day of the coup.
